We'll give you essential tasting and buying tips as we go, and include an award-winning English Sparkling Wine so that you can see for yourself if it lives up to the hype of recent years.

Some wines will be made in the same way as Champagne, and others not… and there will certainly be one or two surprises in store as we taste and assess the wines 'blind' to see if you can spot which one is the Champagne when tasted and compared next to Prosecco, Cava, an award-winning English Sparkling Wine and other brilliant bubbles from across the globe.

This bubbly two-hour Masterclass includes: 

An introduction to the professional approach to sparkling wine tasting and assessing

An introduction and overview of how Champagne and other sparkling wines are made

An introductory guide on the differences between Champagne and other sparkling wine styles, including production choices available to the winemaker and the impact on style

Ideas on suitable occasions and food to serve with different sparkling wines

An overview and introduction to Non-Vintage, Vintage, Blanc de Blanc and Blanc de Noirs wines

Helpful hints and tips on buying, storing and serving , and finding quality and value for Champagne and sparkling wines from around the world

The Great Wine School is run by Bristol Wine School, and wine tutor Tristan Darby has certified wine knowledge and over 20 years experience in both the catering and wine trade. He is the founder of Bristol Wine School, drinks columnist for The Bath Magazine, and has been a judge for both Good Food and Great Taste Awards. Tristan has set up and run a cookery school and trains wine and hospitality professionals, consults and trains for bars, hotels and restaurants, national and international drinks brands. He is passionate that world of wine shouldn't be a pretentious, elitist place and has a earned a great reputation for imparting his knowledge in an entertaining, un-stuffy, non-patronising and approachable way. He'll answer questions as you go, and hopes to give you the confidence and tools to break habits, expand horizons and explore new and interesting wines.
