Calling all Cheese & Wine Lovers! Join us for a mouth-watering masterclass on pairing superb wines together with artisan cheese in the atmospheric setting of the Bird Hotel in Bath.

Sit back, relax and enjoy as we pour a hand-picked selection of wines from around the world, each carefully chosen to match a different delicious artisan cheese from one of Britain’s finest cheesemongers Paxton & Whitfield who have a superb shop in the centre of Bath.

Starting off with a fun introduction to wine tasting, we’ll deliver lots of essential tips on everything from creating the perfect cheese board, and pairing cheese and other food sucesfully with wine, to advice on buying wine and how to find quality and value. 

You'll taste each wine 'blind' to remove any preconception and focus on flavour, before re-tasting it with a carefully chosen artisan cheese. We'll explain why each pairing works before we explain about each wine and cheese, where they are from, who has made them - and how.  

This is the most delicious way to learn about the fascinating worlds of wine and cheese in a hands-on way.

The Great Wine School is run by Bristol Wine School, and wine tutor Tristan Darby has certified wine knowledge and over 20 years experience in both the catering and wine trade. He is the founder of Bristol Wine School, drinks columnist for The Bath Magazine, and has been a judge for both Bristol Good Food Awards and Bath Good Food Awards and Great Taste Awards. A former cookery school manager, Tristan also consults and trains for hotels, bars restaurants, national and international drinks brands, works with cookery schools, and occasionally hosts dinners and events with some of the region's top chefs.

He is passionate that the world of wine shouldn't be a pretentious, elitist place and has earned a fantastic reputation for imparting his knowledge in an entertaining, un-stuffy, non-patronising and approachable way. He'll answer questions as you go, and hopes to give you the confidence and tools to break ‘safe’ habits, expand horizons and explore new and interesting wines.
